• Monday June 24, 2019 one-day bus trip to the Historic Smithfield & Solitude Plantations, with research author Dr. Kerri Moseley-Hobbs as your guide. At the Smithfield and Solitude Plantation, now the grounds of Virginia Tech, Dr. Moseley-Hobbs will guide everyone through the history of her ancestors once enslaved at the plantation. That tour will include the "Fraction Family Cabin" the "Preston Family Home" and the "Preston Family Cemetery" where one of her ancestors is buried with the family that enslaved the Fractions. The plantations are currently managed by the Smithfield-Preston Foundation and Virginia Tech where she is a member of the Board of Trustees.
